Daikin is the largest heating and cooling company in the world by revenue, which translates to significant R&D investment and consistent product development. In New Zealand their residential range is well-regarded, particularly for energy efficiency and for being the most straightforward of the three premium brands to set up with WiFi control.
Most current Daikin residential models have WiFi built directly into the unit — not an optional adaptor like Mitsubishi Electric's MELCloud system. The Daikin Mobile Controller app is generally considered the most intuitive of the three accredited brands, which matters if multiple people in the household need to use it.
Daikin also integrates well with Google Home and Amazon Alexa, making it the stronger choice if smart home integration is a priority. Panasonic is the only one of the three that supports Apple HomeKit natively.

Built-in WiFi — no adaptor needed
Most current Daikin residential models have WiFi built directly into the unit. Setup is simpler than Mitsubishi's MELCloud adaptor system — connect to your network during installation and you're done. The Daikin Mobile Controller app is generally considered the most straightforward of the three brands.
Energy efficiency
Daikin's residential range consistently achieves strong COP (Coefficient of Performance) ratings — on some models, marginally ahead of Mitsubishi Electric and Panasonic equivalents. The efficiency advantage is most notable in the mid-range models rather than at the budget end of the range.
Smart home integration
Google Home and Amazon Alexa support is strong and well-implemented. If voice control or integration with other smart devices in your home is a priority, Daikin is a solid choice. The exception is Apple HomeKit — only Panasonic supports that natively.
Scale of R&D
As the world's largest HVAC manufacturer, Daikin invests more in product development than smaller brands. This shows in consistent incremental improvements to efficiency, noise levels, and reliability across model generations.
Service and parts
Strong NZ distributor network and good parts availability. Not as widely installed as Mitsubishi Electric, but the service infrastructure is solid and repair turnaround times are generally fast in South Auckland.

Yes — the subsidy applies to any qualifying heat pump from an EECA-approved installer, regardless of brand. Eligibility is based on your home and circumstances, not the brand. Does Daikin WiFi work without a separate adaptor?
On most current Daikin residential models, yes — WiFi is built in. You connect to your home network during installation and download the Daikin Mobile Controller app. This is simpler than Mitsubishi Electric's MELCloud system, which requires a separate adaptor. We confirm which models have built-in WiFi when we recommend a unit for your home.
Does Daikin support Apple HomeKit?
No — Daikin supports Google Home and Amazon Alexa, but not Apple HomeKit natively. If Apple HomeKit integration is important to you, Panasonic is the only one of our three accredited brands that supports it. Daikin's Google Home integration is well-implemented and works reliably for voice control and automation.
How does Daikin compare to Mitsubishi Electric for a Flat Bush home?
Both are strong choices for Flat Bush's typical multi-room needs. Daikin's slight efficiency advantage and simpler WiFi setup are relevant for larger Flat Bush homes where running costs and managing multiple zones from an app both matter. Mitsubishi Electric has a slight edge on humidity handling and the wider service network. We can give you a specific recommendation after a site visit — the difference between the two is genuinely small.
