WiFi heat pump control — heat your home from anywhere

Most modern heat pumps from Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, and Panasonic support WiFi control as standard or via a simple adaptor. Control temperature, set schedules, and monitor energy use from your phone — anywhere with an internet connection.

What WiFi control gives you

More than just turning it on from bed

WiFi connectivity adds a useful layer of convenience and control to an already efficient heating system. Here's what you actually get.

Remote control from anywhere
Turn your heat pump on or off, change temperature, and switch modes from your phone — whether you're in bed, at work, or heading home. No more arriving to a cold house.
Scheduling and timers
Set weekday and weekend schedules, programme the bedroom to warm before your alarm goes off, or schedule cooling before you get home on a hot day. The unit runs when you want it, not all day.
Energy monitoring
See how much energy your heat pump is using in real time. Some apps provide monthly usage reports, helping you identify when and why your running costs spike.
Geofencing
Available on select models — the app detects when your phone leaves or approaches home and adjusts the temperature automatically. Heating starts as you head home; turns off when you leave.
Voice control
Panasonic and Daikin systems integrate with Google Home and Amazon Alexa. Adjust temperature or switch modes by voice — useful when your hands are full or you're across the room.
Multi-user access
Share access with family members so everyone can control the system from their own phone. Useful in households where different people manage different rooms or have different schedules.
How it works

Simple to set up, straightforward to use

WiFi connectivity is built into the heat pump's control board — either as standard or via a small WiFi adaptor that plugs into the indoor unit. Once connected to your home network, you download the manufacturer's app and the heat pump appears as a device you can control.

The heat pump communicates with your router, which connects to the manufacturer's cloud service. This means you can control it from anywhere with a data connection — not just when you're on your home WiFi.

Each brand has their own app, all available free on iOS and Android. We connect the heat pump to your network during installation and walk you through the app setup before we leave.

The physical remote control is always included as a backup — if your internet is down or your phone is unavailable, the heat pump operates exactly as normal.

Got an existing heat pump?

Can WiFi be added to your current unit?

If you already have a heat pump without WiFi, it may be possible to add it — depends on the brand, model, and age.

Retrofit usually possible
Most current and recent Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, and Panasonic residential models support WiFi adaptors that connect to the indoor unit's control board. If your unit is within the last 5–8 years and from one of these brands, it's likely supported.
Mitsubishi Electric — MELCloud WiFi adaptor (MAC-568IF-E or similar)
Daikin — BRP069B41/B45 WiFi adaptor series
Panasonic — CZ-TACG1 WiFi adaptor
Worth checking first
Some older models and most budget-brand units don't support WiFi adaptors — the control board simply doesn't have the interface for them. Before purchasing an adaptor, check compatibility or call us.
Units over 8–10 years old may not be supported
Budget brands (Gree, Haier, Carrier) have limited or no adaptor support
Some older Fujitsu, LG, and Samsung models are unsupported
Call us with your model number — we'll confirm compatibility before you spend anything
Common questions

WiFi control FAQ

The questions we get asked most about WiFi-enabled heat pumps.

What happens if my internet goes down?
+
Your heat pump keeps working normally — you just can't control it remotely until internet is restored. Any schedules programmed into the unit itself continue running. The physical remote control works regardless of internet status. WiFi is a convenience layer, not a dependency.
Does WiFi use much data or affect my internet speed?
+
Negligible — the data usage is minimal, similar to sending a few text messages per month. It won't affect your internet speed or impact your data plan in any meaningful way.
Can other people control my heat pump through the app?
+
Only people you specifically invite and grant access to. The accounts are password-protected and the systems don't broadcast to other users. You can share access with family members from within the app, and you can remove access at any time.
Does WiFi connectivity add much to the cost of a new unit?
+
On most current Daikin and Panasonic residential models it's built in at no extra cost. On Mitsubishi Electric, the MELCloud WiFi adaptor is a relatively low-cost addition. We include the adaptor and setup in the installation quote where applicable — there's no hidden cost.
My home WiFi doesn't reach the room where the heat pump will be — is that a problem?
+
It can be. The indoor unit needs a reliable WiFi signal to maintain connection. If your router is far from the installation location or you have dead spots, a WiFi extender or mesh network node in that area will solve the problem. We assess signal strength during the site visit and flag any potential issues before installation.
Is it worth getting WiFi control if I'm not very tech-savvy?
+
The scheduling feature alone is worth it for most people — even if you never use the remote app, programming the unit to warm up before you wake and turn off when you leave saves money without any ongoing effort. The apps themselves are straightforward; if you can use a phone, you can use them. We walk you through everything during installation.
